Zipper - How To

Step One:
Baste the zipper opening.
Step Two:
Clip seam allowance even with the fly extension. Press seam open. On the left front, topstich close to the center front seam from waist to dot.
Step Three:
Place closed zipper face down on right front extension with left edge of zipper tape along basted seam. Place zipper stop 3/4" above dot and pin zipper to extension. Zipper will extend up from waist and will be trimmed after waistband is sewn on.
Step Four:
Move zipper toward left fly extension as far as it will go without puckering underneath (edge of zipper tape and edge of extension is not even). Stitch close to left side of zipper teeth, be sure to stitch only through zipper tape and left fly extension.

Step Five:
Stitch close to zipper teeth, using a zipper foot, stitch only through zipper and right fly extension, stitch again close to edge of zipper tape, stitching only through zipper and extension.
Step Six:
Pin zipper and extension to the left front. Outline fly by topstitching on the left front !" from center front,curving stitching to center front dot. Remove basting and open zipper.
Step Seven:
Place zipper shield on inside of right front with waist edges even with straight edge of zipper tape. To keep zipper shield in place stitch close to zipper teeth through all layers.
